Goa, a tiny emerald land on the west coast of India, the 25th State in the Union of States of India, was liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961. It was part of Union territory of Goa, Daman & Diu till 30 May 1987 when it was carved out to form a separate State.
Goa covers an area of 3702 square kilometers and comprises two Revenue district viz North Goa and South Goa. Boundaries of Goa State are defined in the North Terekhol river which separates it from Maharashtra, in the East and South by Karnataka State and West by Arabian Sea. Goa lies in Western Coast of India and is 594 Kms (by road) away from Mumbai city.
A very striking feature of Goa is the harmonious relationship among various religious communities, who have lived together peacefully for generations. Though a late entrant to the planning process, Goa has emerged as one of the most developed States in India and even achieved the ranking of one of the best states in India with regards to investment environment and infrastructure...
Goa. time out from life as you know it.
More vacationers visit Goa every year then any other destination on the west coast of India. Why? Wonderful climate. A glorious history richly preserved in churches, forts, traditional homes, villages and its cities. Spectacular pageantry. Colourful festivals. Warm and gracious people. Superb cuisine. Goa is one of India's most laid back, yet sophisticated and exciting , destinations. From miles and miles of sunny beaches, to the splendors of its quaint cities, towns and cobbled alleyways, Goa is more than just beaches and sunshine. It's also the charm and magic of toxic resorts, a verdant green countryside, lush green forests and abundant wildlife topped with the legendary warmth and hospitality of the Goan people.
And away from the beaten track , travelers discover a romantic and other-century goa in its medieval small towns, and beautiful villagers, with rich flora and fauna. There is so much to see and yet at the end of it all you feel there's too little time.
A truly exhilarating out of this world experience that only Goa can provide. Whether it's fun adventure , sunshine, spirituality or just plain relaxation, you don't need to look beyond the magical land of Goa.
Information about: ASSAGAO
The cottage lies in the village of Assagao, one of the tiniest and most peaceful villages of the Velhas Conquistas of Bardez, tucked into the corner of northern Goa, measuring about 7 kilometres in length and resting peacefully in verdant hills cosvered in cashew groves.
Famous for the healing power of its spring water, its exquisite tropical gardens and gentle breezes from the Arabian Sea, Assagao remains relatively untouched by the growing tourism, despite being only 4 km from the famous Anjuna & Vagator Beaches and 7 km from the very lively Baga Beach. Mapusa, the market town, is 2 km away and, although hugely popular, has held onto its gloriously laid back Portuguese “sossegado” atmosphere.
In Assagao you have the best of both worlds: utter peace and tranquillity and yet a true sense of being in a community and being with the local people. Here you can become immersed in their world and the Goan way of living.
In idyllic Assagao you can relax in the lap of mother nature because it is a serene, hill clad green valley. The visitor doesn’t have to search for bird watching sites because it’s where one wakes up to the harmony of sweet birdsong, bulbuls, woodpeckers and birds of colourful plumage. Quaint village mansions dot the village and a time-worn landmark known as “Cator”.
The valley, populated by a Hindu-Catholic mix, is well known for its age-old, white-washed church. The Church of St Cajetan is considered as one of the ten best churches in Goa. In the valley too is situated the Palotti Insititute of Philosophy and Oriental Religions, which is a minutes stroll from Little Paradise. Other important institutions in the village: International Animal Rescue, Ayurvedic Massage Centre, El-Shaddai Children’s Homes, Rainbow House, Ishapreema Old Age Home, etc, all within a few minutes walk.
You shouldn’t be surprised to find Europeans stepping out from the traditional Goan houses. They have either purchased old ruins and renovated same for holidaying in India or rented for the time being.
